Capitol Hill Block Party

There have been lots of large-scale events happening in Seattle this week. From the Torchlight Parade to the Capitol Hill Block Party. A quick rundown of what the Block Party is:

“The Capitol Hill Block Party is an annual music festival that draws upon and showcases the best indie and underground rock in the US, with a special focus on Northwest artists. Launched 11 years ago, the Block Party has evolved into one of Seattle’s most anticipated outdoor music festivals. With over 50 bands on 4 stages, great food, and plenty of cheap beer, this is one of the best parties of the summer.”-The Stranger

Here is a compilation of photos overlaid one another to show the color change and movement of the moon. The reason for the moon appearing orange in color is caused by the scattering of light in the atmosphere. When the moon is near the horizon, the moonlight must pass through much more atmosphere than when the moon is directly overhead. Dust and other particles also have a role in changing the color of the moon for that small period of time.

Poster + Depeche Mode + Cepia

Remember that D.Nine poster from a while back? I have decided to update it and give it much more. I’ve posted a few small teaser previews. Alongside that, there will be some other posters coming as well.

I spent most of my morning trying to listen to all of Depeche Mode’s songs. I came to the conclusion that I wasn’t going to be able to get through them all, so I gave up and chose one song from them and one song from the Ghostly Swim Album.

Woodland Park Zoo

Yesterday I went to the Woodland Park Zoo. I arrived there late so I didn’t have that much time to walk around, not to mention the animals were in a “dead” mood. See the pictures to see what I mean.

Elliott Bay Pano

There is nothing better than starting off a post with a great panorama. This was shot down at Elliott Bay about 15 feet from Anthony’s Diner. Here is a photo from just three days before the I shot the pano.

Who would’ve thought that audio could be used on a Digital SLR camera? The EOS-1d Mark II has a built in voice recorder. This could come in handy when needing to remember names or locations of people or photos and also for blogging how well it works.

Photographs: We Can Dance If We Want To

Went down to Lake Union last night to see the fireworks. It wasn’t a bad show but definitely was further away than I expected (I was on the south side of the Lake rather than planting myself amongst thousands of other people at Gasworks Park). After the show, a couple was dancing down the dock to a live band.

Logo Evolution

Since I shoot photos, and I blog them frequently, I’ll post a little bit about one of my favorite brandsâ€“Kwanon. Wait a minute…Kwanon?

In 1933, Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory (Canon) was established and Kwanon was the name given to Canon’s earliest cameras. Their first logo during the prototype stage, was a ~~horrid~~ beautiful rendition of what looks like Buddhist deity.

Canon has since then undergone some serious changes that have given us a much more welcoming logo. Here are some of the stages they’ve gone through to get that logo that we’ve all come to love:

Another logo change that is questionable is Walmart’s. In my opinion, all they really need is the updated color change and that will be enough for them.

I recently bought a Canon 1d Mark II. I’m really enjoying the camera and have been using it often. I do wish it had a larger screen though.

June 28th: A Nice Day

Kerry Park on Queen Anne in Seattle, Washington

So today is not the 28th but rather the first of July. In hopes to improve my blogging, I will post everyday that I’m here in Idaho. To start it off above is a photo taken around 9:05PM, Saturday along with a short timeline of my travel. View it at its largest size if you want to get the full effect. The light was amazing at 9:05PM. The shot is a 17-image-panorama shot at 200mm up on Queen Anne hill at Kerry Park.

10:25 PM, Saturday
Decided to head to Idaho for a few days for fun. Started packing and grabbed a quick bite to eat before I left.

11:14 PM, Saturday
Already heading out of Seattle via I-5 on my way to Idaho. This is starting to look like the UPS tracking system minus the part where it says your package is going to be delayed—always happens to me.

4:15 AM, Sunday
Coming into Spokane and seeing a beautiful sunrise. I’m still half asleep and not willing to bring out the camera. Not to mention is just one of those days where there isn’t much to shoot.

8:55 AM, Sunday
Just arrived in Lewiston, Idaho. Heading homeward via metal on wheels.

12:01 PM, Sunday
Keeping it cool. Staying out of the heat and eating for 10.

4:25 PM, Sunday
If you’re asking yourself what happened between between 12:01 and 4:25, the answer is I had a nap. After that, we went down the road to a neighbors house for a barbecue. Great time and great food Idaho style!

7:30 PM, Monday
It’s Monday evening and I’m enjoying a relaxing evening with watermelon and intriguing clouds overhead.

Canon 1d Mark II

Oh the long nights contemplating whether or not I should upgrade and I finally did itâ€“I sold my 40D and purchased the Canon 1d Mark II. It truly has been one of the best purchases I’ve done relating to photography. The camera is amazing; 45 AutoFocus points, 8.5 Frames Per Second, full weathersealing…it is really a tool to have. There is a full review at dpreview if you’d like to read a little bit.

I’ve taken quite a few shots recently, testing the focus and noise comparison to the 40D. In my opinion, the 40D is much more forgiving if you incorrectly expose and need to adjust in post. The 1D MKII on the other hand, seems like you need to pinpoint the exposure in order to keep from getting grainy images. This of course is not a problem at all, but noticed it during my first few shots. Here is a 100% crop of an image showing that the files are fairly sharp:

Yesterday I went for a stroll along the waterfront/Olympic Sculpture Park to do some more testing. There were about 40-50 sailboats in a group going along the shore.
