Xrite Color & Hue Test

Xrite Hue Test

Prior to taking this test I was unsure if I could distinguish between some of the color chips. Now that I know I’m able to see the hues correctly, I’m curious who else can.

Idaho for the Weekend

September 29th, 2008

This past weekend I’ve been in Portland and in Idaho visiting family and taking leaps at learning new things. I’ve also been spending more time on Twitter lately. If you’re on Twitter, make sure to follow my feed as I’ll be twittering new blog posts and updates.

Here are a handful of photos taken during the trip.

Imperial Motion Blog

September 24th, 2008

Imperial Motion (IM), as of a few weeks ago, launched a new blog catering to artists and photographers that they felt deserved some recognition. About two months before the launch I was contacted and asked to take part in this blog. I haven’t had much to post as of lately, but I did give them access to pull images from my blog so that they could post. IM decided to go with the GirlTalk photos from The Capitol Hill Block Party. Some of those photos were also used in an upcoming interview with Greg Gillis for Slug Magazine.

Olugbenro & Glazer’s

September 6th, 2008

Yesterday was an inspirational day to say the least. Glazer’s camera is holding lighting talks and demonstrations this weekend over at their main store as well as their lighting and rental stores. They are also having a sale–10% off all of their lighting equipment.

At 6:30PM last night, a relatively new studio was having an open house for photographer, Olùgbènrò Ogunsemore. Great atmosphere and very nice people. Hasselblad, Epson and Bowens reps were present and showing their most expensive products. The studio actually hosts a full production business. There are sound studios, green screen, video editing suite, make-up/dressing area, client suite as well as a design suite all in this building.

Around 8:00PM Benro brought a model onto the seamless and set up his Profoto setup and explained how he shoots and works with models from start to finish. If you take a look at the following picture, you can see that he was shooting tethered to a 24″ iMac. The detail was amazing when viewing the file at full size.

After talking with Olùgbènrò for a minute or two, I noticed that he uses a large, definitely custom hand strap. I asked him about it and he quickly filled me in. Olùgbènrò had started a company called Grip60.

YouTube Preview ImageThe Marcus Eaton Trio is comprised of three members. A bassist–James, guitar & singer–Marcus, and a percussionist–Kevin. Each of them have amazing talent and as a band are putting out great music. I was first introduced to the music about a year ago by Dave. Dave and I worked together to get some shots for the band and since then I’ve been helping the band out. It’s great to get a chance to be part of something that I really enjoy listening to. Check out these older posts on Dave’s blog: Marcus Eaton Trio, Trio Promo and Published Premier Guitar.

The show was at The Gorge and Marcus played before Dave Matthews went on stage. Once again, great performance by the band. They were joined part way through by DM member, Tim Reynolds.

Cataldo

August 25th, 2008

Keeping very busy lately and letting music collect dust in my iTunes Library. I have a few songs here from Cataldo. I’m not sure how to describe the music besides having a touch of a poppy and acoustic feel. His new album Signal Flare, is out though and available on iTunes and through the Cataldo website.

Lightning Sunset

August 17th, 2008

Beacon Hill Sunset
No there wasn’t really lightning at sunset but wouldn’t that be cool? The first shot I’m posting, was taken over on Beacon Hill looking towards downtown Seattle. I shot it using a .9 (3 stop) GND (graduated neutral density) filter. The reason for using this type of filter is so I could properly expose the ground and still keep the sky from overexposing.

Last night, technically this morning, was the first time I’d actually seen lightning strikes this close to Seattle. The lightning was about 10 miles off at one point. The best of the show was at about 4AM, going till about 4:30AM. I have posted some random photos below from the weekend as well. They are from the same night as the first sunset photo I posted up above.

Santogold – L.E.S. Artistes

August 10th, 2008

There are music artists that you can listen to everyday, three times a day. Santogold is one of those artists that has such an awesome voice and puts out great tracks. One of my favorite songs of hers is L.E.S. Artistes.

I found the music video to the song on youtube and posted it below. The video is driven by one of her life experiences, giving it such a personal feel. I also have posted another song below to listen to when the video has finished.

Search & Ride

August 10th, 2008

You tend to not realize how large a city is until you can’t find what you’re looking for. These past two weekends a friend and myself have been looking for some bmx trails/jumps that I was told were on Queen Anne. Well needless to say, we didn’t find the trails, but we did stumbled upon quite a few great locations to shoot photos and some interesting vantage points looking over Seattle as well as a more northern look towards the University of Washington.

Lake Union Seattle

This shot has nothing to do with the search except for the fact that you can see just how large Queen Anne is. Check out the Map print out below.

Seattle Searching

The darkened area is the area that we covered twice. The area where the lines are drawn is the area that we only passed through. If anyone knows the whereabouts of these so-called trails, please leave a comment or send me an email.

Autumn Garage Skateboards

July 28th, 2008

Almost two months ago I was asked to do some skateboard designs for Autumn Garage out of Salt Lake City. I ended up doing a bunch of different designs. The whole project was fun, the boards turned out great and I am definitely looking forward to working with AG in the future.

Capitol Hill Block Party

July 27th, 2008

There have been lots of large-scale events happening in Seattle this week. From the Torchlight Parade to the Capitol Hill Block Party. A quick rundown of what the Block Party is:

“The Capitol Hill Block Party is an annual music festival that draws upon and showcases the best indie and underground rock in the US, with a special focus on Northwest artists. Launched 11 years ago, the Block Party has evolved into one of Seattle’s most anticipated outdoor music festivals. With over 50 bands on 4 stages, great food, and plenty of cheap beer, this is one of the best parties of the summer.”-The Stranger

Moon Overlay

July 18th, 2008

Here is a compilation of photos overlaid one another to show the color change and movement of the moon. The reason for the moon appearing orange in color is caused by the scattering of light in the atmosphere. When the moon is near the horizon, the moonlight must pass through much more atmosphere than when the moon is directly overhead. Dust and other particles also have a role in changing the color of the moon for that small period of time.
