Bates Masi Sams Creek Residence

December 27th, 2011

When you come across a house such as this, it’s almost impossible to resist dropping what you’re doing just to share it or admire it fully. This isn’t the first time that the work of Bates Masi Architects has done that for the blog.

The house comes in at 6,500 square feet and is occupied by a single family in Bridgehampton, New York. It is a series of open-ended box shaped sections that allow for multiple actives to take place in and around the house without complete interruption. Each section of the house has independent audio, video and climate controls without hindrance to the other sections.

Modern Lounge Chair Bed

December 27th, 2011

The form of this modern looking lounge chair / bed is quite interesting. Though it was built for recently, it seems that there has to be a retro-futuristic connection with the design. Regardless this is on my want list.

1960s Lark Cigarette Packaging

December 21st, 2011

For such a self destructive product, the packaging design is rather good. It was originally designed by George Tscherny for Lark Cigarettes in 1968. For designs like this it would be interesting to see before and after sales among other things to figure out why the design style never stuck.

To Want To Be Successful is Not Enough

December 20th, 2011

Regardless if you’re a fan of Actor Kevin Spacey (I am), this clip hits right on the core of what it takes. It’s videos like this one and “How bad do you want Success” that really send powerful surges of inspiration and motivation throughout the body.

To want and to be ambitious and to want to be successful, is not enough—that’s just desire.

There is no prize out there. The only prize is this one [points to heart], and what you feel and what you want to accomplish. If you can, as you start out, these what could be lean years or fat years, I feel that I very often watch a lot of young people sort of meander around without any idea about why they’re doing. To want and to be ambitious and to want to be successful, is not enough—that’s just desire.

To know what you want, to understand why you’re doing it, to dedicate every breathe in your body to achieve. If you feel you have something to give, if you feel that your particular talent is worth developing or is worth caring for, then there is nothing you can’t achieve. You’re going to grow up with your colleagues. You’re going to watch them have success and watch them have failure and you’re going to watch how they deal with it.

Canon EOS 500D Hand Bag

December 14th, 2011

Quite a cool collateral concept to go along with a Canon EOS 500D brochure. As grocery stores across the world require you to bring in your own grocery bags, these would be great for photographers. I’d use one.

Tori-Tori Restaurant

December 13th, 2011

Mexico based firm Rojkind Arquitectos, designed this stunning restaurant in Polanco near Mexico City. The initial facade is supposed to appear to waver and feel as if it is emerging from the ground. Inside the restaurant is a very moody, modern feel. The main dining room has beautiful wood walls and one large plant filled wall.

Modern San Francisco Mansion

December 12th, 2011

This 6130 square foot waterfront home is an example of California’s impressive modern architecture. The home has 25 rooms: four bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms. Because of the actual building structure, there are many deck options for enjoying a great view over the bay. The house is located near Mill Valley, San Francisco and currently on the market for $6,875,000.

Expo 67 Montreal Post Cards

December 9th, 2011

Expo 67 is perhaps my most favorite event of the 60s. The exhibition was open from April 28th to October 27th in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and located on two islands and a peninsula in the middle of the St. Lawrence River.
