When I was first turned onto The Panic Division, I couldn’t get enough. The band has this electronic, synthpop sound that just pulls me in. The sound is almost like a hint of David Bowie with a dash of the 80s. That may not be the most descriptive so feel free to share your take. Also, beware of listening to these tracks on Youtube, you may be completely thrown off. The amazing sound that I know them as is ruined by a sound that seems all too similar to many other bands out there today.

If you’re in the mood for more beat-filled tracks, check out the last song called Legacy.

Time after time it I’ve accidentally left songs playing in iTunes while trying listening to music online. Sometimes its really interesting and other times it’s downright terrible. Just recently came across this website called Rainy Mood. Rainy mood is a website with an embedded 30-minute rain loop that plays in the background by itself or over your favorite music. I loved this idea so much and it sounds so good, that I strongly suggest you try it. Boy do I have the perfect mix for you to test it on. Today Brian Gossett brings to us a new 19 track guest mix composed by Nessim Higson.

Step 1: Turn up your speakers.

Step 2: Open RainyMood.com and click play.

Step 3: Click play on the track below, sit back, and enjoy.

Brian Gossett’s brings us his fourth installment of the Take Ivy series. If you’re just jumping into these mixes, the inspiration behind the Take Ivy series came from a group of photographs (also the ones used in the art) by T. Hayashida.

Don’t you love it when you forget about certain tracks in your playlist and stumble upon them months later? It’s almost like finding gold, or better yet, greener pastures in music. I was fumbling through iTunes earlier this week and came across fellow designer and friend Alex Koplin’s extraordinary mixes. It’s been quite some time since I’ve relaxed to the soothing beauty of his Ambient Moodcast or the deep bass of the Crescendo Mix, but when I cranked up the volume, I realized I had to share their inspiration with you.

First up is a stunning creation that will make you want to jump about and start slappin’ da bass’. The mix is titled ‘Crescendo Deep House’ and is just over one hour long.

Cover by Alex Koplin/h34dup

Wow, over an hour of the hottest cuts–didn’t you just love that mix? Next up is Alex’s amazing Ambient Moodgadget Moodcast. This is my favorite mix that he has created so far. When listening to this in the summer it gives off such a great vibe. I found myself often drifting freely out of mind but still maintaining complete focus on the work in front of me. The track list features Shigeto, A Setting Sun, Calmer and many more ambient favorites. You can check out the track listing here.

If you enjoy this mix as much as I do, let us know. Perhaps we can persuade Alex to create another.

Last but not least is the Mount Vision Mix. Even more ambient than the previous, this mix brings the sounds of nature into play. As I listen it conjures up ideas of meditation in wide open fields, birds chirping in the early morning sunlit trees, grass rolling in the breeze and thoughts of discovery as you walk through the forest. Even the faint voices in parts help shape the experience of Mount Vision–a place I’ve never been.

View the track list and more photos for this mix.

Lots of hard work and time went into the creation of these so lets give Alex a well deserved applause.

The tracks that I enjoy the most from The Dandy Warhols are the ones that probably have had the least amount of attention (with the exception of the third and fourth of this set). The first two tracks below, both without heavy vocals, seem to give off this worldly, almost meditative energy. Oddly enough I’ve found that I listen to them mostly when getting pumped up to go out and shoot photos or while editing photos. Also, ‘Sleep’ on high volume, is a great track to work to.

Telepopmusik is a marvelous French electronic music trio. I was first introduced their music by the Robot Food Afterlame snowboard film as a kid and come to think of it, I think this movie itself has helped set my music preference to what it is today. There is a section in the beginning of the film that’s cut to the first track I’m listing, ‘Genetic World’. Ever since seeing this edit, I’ve always associated their music with snow even though the music doesn’t talk or involve it–must be a psychological thing. The second and third tracks, Dont Look Back and Mathematics, are two of my favorites followed by my third, Telepath Chromes DJA, a remix.

The Knife is one of those musical duos that never gets old. The duo is Olof Dreijer and Karin Dreijer Andersson. They are based in Stockholm, Sweden and have made music together since 1999. The most interesting part about The Knife is that their sound varies appreciably. On one hand you have fun, relaxing tracks and on the other you have deep, dark and mysteriously strange. I don’t plan on posting those tracks for the sake of maintaining this as a ‘Songs for Singing’ post.

The first track up is ‘Heartbeats’ followed by three others. For clarification, ‘Heartbeats’ was written by The Knife then later covered by fellow Swede José Gonzales. The Knife was at first concerned about letting José cover the song, but changed their minds upon the realization that the extra exposure could bring positivity to the label in the form of funding.

Talkdemonic has always been somewhat intimidating music wise. Especially track 11. This track is only a minute in length but the unique sound draws me in immediately. Such a great track for an intro–definitely my favorite of the batch. Just a quick interlude here:

Are any of you familiar with creating sounds like these and what goes into the making of it?

The group is comprised of Kevin O’Connor (percussion, synthesizer, piano, multi-instrumentalist) and Lisa Molinaro (viola, synthesizer) and to top it all, Talkdemonic is from nearby Portland, Oregon. Check out their newest release, Eyes At Half Mast. It can be picked up from their store. The following tracks below that I’ve selected are from the Mutiny Sunshine release.
