Yes, that’s right. These are all 3D renders. Peter Guthrie is a freelance visualization artist based in Falun, Sweden. From 1995-2000 he studied Architecture at Edinburgh College of Art, then worked for a number of Architect’s Practices including RMJM Ltd. and Richard Murphy Architects in Scotland. His work is among some of most realistic I’ve ever seen in this field. So good in fact that I only found out that the Allandale House images were 3D by digging deeper and coming across Peter’s site.

I often wonder where visualization/3D artists should draw the line when creating super realistic environments or if they should at all. The only reason I say this is because Peter’s work is almost unidentifiable as 3D work.

Can you tell these are renderings?

You can see more of his process by rumbling through his blog.

All of the previous products had these beautiful rounded edges and just felt fluid in your hand. I now see this design as giving the phone more substance. The design to me just feels more modern. I would love to get my hands on this phone and also this house—what a perfect, modern fit.

Neal Fletcher designed this intriguing spaghetti package while in his second year at the University of Central Lancashire. I find this packaging particularly interesting in the sense that it divides up serving size. I find this helpful as I constantly over do the serving size every time when I make spaghetti.

It’s been nearly a year and a half since I completed this project in school. The project was a self-initiated re-branding of V1 Private Jet charter. The reason for tackling this particular company was that their branding was loose. It looked as if the aspect of design throughout their brand had been lost sight of. Being that V1 is a jet charter service that offers their luxury-minded clientele on-demand private jet charter services for both domestic and international travel, I tackled this design in a whole new way than their previous mark.

The initial reaction when beginning the logo process was that the previous V-One was in resemblance of something too close to military and science (periodic table of elements). The new logo utilized a powerful mark in addition to hand-drawn type. The new logo represents aspects of their clients: luxury and exclusiveness. The logo’s “V” shape also incorporates a slice that enables the shape to be interpreted as a bird flying high, or a jet taking off up and to the left.

I came across this set of ridiculously cool, used-looking Pantone chips a while back and had to share them. I’m led to believe that David Hyde is the owner of these chips. The aged color and tears are really cool to reference, but other than that, there really isn’t that much to them.

Check out all of them on My Pantone Past.

For nearly a year I had it as my desktop background. Every time I looked at my desktop I was looking at type and studying. You can grab the full desktop version here.

These next posters by Martin Plonka are all about Serif and Sans-serif classification. Besides being a beautiful set, I could see them being very useful in classrooms to help students understand the categories of type as well as seeing examples of the type in application. These posters are somewhat small but Martin covers these categories:

 • Slab Serif
• Serif Old Style
• Serif Transitional
• Serif Modern
• Sans Humanist
• Sans (Neo)Grotesque
• Sans Geometric

The particular agency that created these ads was Swiss Publicis Zurich in 2005. Some other information that I found about concluded that Markus Gut was the creative director, Isabelle Hauser was the art director and Roy Spring was the copywriter for this campaign. These don’t quite fall into the normal range of my posts but this campaign appeared to have a strong driving concept. With that said, my favorite ad is the penquin ad.

There is always something stunning about coming gems like these. While they may not be the most attractive images, they certainly have helped me nail down that ever-so-unique mid-century vibe. I’m most drawn to the Siliconized High Gloss and Color Varnish sets.
You can see some other examples of these colors in use here and here.
