Biograf Fictional Film Magazine Covers

Sam Smith is a designer who put together these nice covers for a personal project. The task was to list his favorite movies of the past decade and design the concepts into covers for a fictional European film magazine. I think he’s done quite a nice job—I was originally under the impression they were real!

More beautiful covers collected by Counter Print of hard to find or out of print books. The first two here are my favorite because of the typography. The leading of the multi-line covers compliments the imagery perfectly.

ECM Record Covers

ECM Records was a music label founded in Munich, Germany in 1969. ECM was best known for jazz music but released a wide variety of records. This collection of covers is only a small amount of a large collection.

The Eames Lounge Chair: An Icon of Modern Design

Late last year I stopped by Design Within Reach to check out one of these beauties. Talk about a chair sent straight out of heaven! Not only was I blown away by the comfort, but also by how well designed it is. In this book it really shows the Eames Lounger as a timeless beauty and the stories behind it.

In the book Charles Eames is asked to explain the chair. One of his quotes was that the chair needs to have “the warm receptive look of a well-worn first baseman’s mitt.” This to me is really what an older Eames lounger resembles and of course with some things, they just get better with age.

The book is definitely worth checking out and can be purchased through Amazon. More information about the book below:

Display is a tightly curated collection of modern, mid century graphic design books, advertisements and other ephemera. Display was created by Kind Company, an independent design office in Brooklyn, New York. Kind Company were the creators of the Helvetica and the New York City Subway System book.

Counter-print has/had a great collection of really beautiful, vintage design books. A lot of the books are out of print or just hard to find. I find the first two to be especially interesting because of their interpretive depth.

Studio 8 At this Rate

When mixed, large type and beautiful images always get me. This project by Studio 8 blends the two together to form a beautiful booklet. It’s aim is to raise awareness about the destruction of the Amazon rainforest. The booklet is made from only one sheet of FSC certified paper, folding out from the cover into a 12-page concertina, maximizing the sheet usage and minimizing waste.
