Hanna Park Residence

This Edmonds, Washington home sits on a high bluff above the Puget Sound. The home, although at 2,000 square feet, was originally designed for one person. Living spaces are found on the main floor while the master bedroom and office are on the second floor. Aluminum-framed glass, brick, cement stucco and Western Red Cedar were the main building materials.

Desert House by Marmol Radziner

This prefab home was designed by Marmol Radziner and is located on a five-acre plot in Desert Hot Springs, California. The indoor and outdoor living spaces, in both design and color, fit well with the surrounding landscape. The “L” shaped layout helps protect the courtyard which includes a pool and fire pit.

This house in the trees by Coop 15 is located outside the small town of Preston near Issaquah, Washington on an eight-acre plot of land. The home is a 4,000 square feet and has three levels. A great home nestled in the great Northwest.

The Netherlands Apartment

Dutch firm Laura Alvarez Architecture completed renovation and interior design of this two-floor apartment in Amsterdam. One of the goals of the project was to transform the small, dark apartment into a brighter space. The building is a national monument, so retaining some of the original interior features was necessary.

The Queen Anne Kelly Residence

Coop15 Architecture designed this beautiful residence on Queen Anne in Seattle. The home was renovated and expanded in 2008. The house received additions such as a bedroom on the lower level and interior living, dining and kitchen area expansions.

The interior of the home had extensive cedar paneling that had darkened with age. The architects added more glass and replacing some of the wood with white gypsum wallboard. This allowed more light in and brightened up the interior—great move.

California Gradman Residence

The Gradman residence by Swatt Miers is situated 35 miles north of San Francisco near the Point Reyes National Seashore. The 2,500 square foot vacation home was designed with five floor levels that gently step with the topography of the landscape. The living terraces to the east allow for magnificent views of Tomales Bay and the wetlands.

OZ Residence by Swatt Miers Architects

The Oz Residence was designed by Swatt Miers Architects and is located in Silicon Valley, California. The home was built with rich-colored wood alongside stone and steel. The home is organized into an L-shape with the two wings joined by a large, open living space. A floating glass bridge connects the upper levels.

Paper Architecture by Ingrid Siliakus

Amsterdam based artists Ingrid Siliakus has created this magnificent mini buildings out of paper. To best describe the difficulty of creating this art, the artist shares some words:

Working with paper forces me to be humble, since this medium has a character of its own that asks for cooperation. It is a challenge to find this cooperation with each separate paper brand I work with. Working with paper the way I do, namely by means of cutting and folding creating paper sculptures, asks of me to work with meditative precision. Paper architecture does not bare haste, it is its enemy; one moment of loss of concentration, can lead to failure of a piece.

Temple Hills Laguna Beach Residence

The Temple Hills Residence was designed by Schola Architecture and is located just above Laguna Beach, California. The 5,000 square foot home uses a very refined modern interior with an emphasis of wood and concrete. The home feels very warm and cozy. I could imagine leaving the sliding glass doors open during the summer.

Bridle Road Residence

The Bridle Road Residence is located in Cape Town, South Africa and was designed by Rees Roberts and Partners. The house is tucked into the hillside just off the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. The large windows and beautiful landscaping allow for a truly beautiful view looking out over the pool and to the ocean.

Collectors House by Andersson Wise

This home by Andersson Wise was an extensive renovation of an existing residence built in the late 1980’s on a wooded site in west Austin. The rooms inside the house were fully redesigned as well as the outside swimming pool and deck area.
