April 29th, 2012

Taller Héctor Barroso designed the beautiful Guanabanos House in Mexico. What strikes me about this house is the “thirds-style” composition of the front of the house and throughout some of the interior.

Casa Mecano in Costa Rica

March 28th, 2012

RoblesArq designed this home in the Osas Peninsula of Costa Rica. The home has a very interesting interior ventilation system.

House Mecano is a body composed of a structure, a skin and a mechanism to adapt to their environment. The Concept of the residence arises in the use of passive strategies through bioclimatic design in synergy with an automation system that controls the appropriate levels of natural ventilation through open window systems and a pulley system that alter the position and inclination of the eaves manually, promoting thermal comfort and indoor air quality. The goal will be to maximize function in the smallest space possible.

Chemosphere Residence by John Lautner

March 9th, 2012

John Lautner is by far one of my favorite architects. This house titled Chemosphere was built in 1960 and is now owned by Benedikt and Angelika Taschen. The is perched high above the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles and has gorgeous open views. To get to the house, you take a funicular (rail-car) up the hill from 100 feet below the house.

As with John Lautner’s other works, my main interest in this home is of course the use of wood, but also the asymmetrical structure.
