The Interiors of Mid-Century Modern

January 4th, 2011

This second set of mid-century interiors also comes from a great collection via Flickr. Everyone of these interiors is just stunning. In the past I’ve said numerous times of how wonderful it feels to look back at this older design to see just how much of an influence it was on the present.

This series is pretty cool. Great stuff to reference.
The colours in the green room are fantastic. Totally going to have to use those on a project I’m working on!

I just found your website and it is absolutely perfect. I was wondering if you knew who the photographer behind the farnsworth house shots was. I saw there were a couple of more at ffffound.

@Ciraran, thanks for the link to Verner Panton. At first glance I was reminded of the Curvilinear house design Roger Dean did for the International Ideal Home Exhibition, Birmingham, back in 1982. I remember as a kid getting a book called “the Art of Roger Dean”, i think, and that house was featured in there.

I notice from Dean’s website that he is still producing the modern version of that curvilinear house called “Home for Life”. (I find it reminds me of upscale version of Bag End from Peter Jackson’s LOTR movie) But the colour schemes are all contemporary (i.e – conservative).

They really were much bolder with their colour choices back mid-century, weren’t they?
